Grade 10 violin practice term 2

Term 2

This is the first practice of my music composition. The title is "Melody".
I tried to play the whole song first so that I know if the song is easy to play
or not. I think I still mess up with the notes and I made some mistakes.
I need to practice more so that I can play it nicely.


Ths is the second practice of playing my music composition. I played the
part A and A' first because I think, I need to practice it step by step. I think
I've made some improvements. On the next practice, I'm going to play
the whole song and try to not do so many mistakes.



This is the practice when I first played the song from suzuki book no.11. I need to have more practice in playing this as the notes are not really accurate and it still sounds bad.

This is the first practice when I played the song from suzuki book no.12. In this video, I place all of my fingers too high which causes the notes to be wrong. I need to have more practice to play this song and I need to place my finger correctly, especially when I need to place my second finger close to the first finger.


This is the practice when I am playing the song from suzuki book no.12. I only improved a little bit, I still made some mistakes in playing the notes. I need to have more practice because as I have so many works to do from school, I didn't have much time to practice.


This is the video of my practice when I am playing the song from suzuki book no.12. I think I've improved but I still made some mistakes in placing the right finger on the right notes. For me, this song is quite hard as it is on the g major scale and I'm not really used to it. My assessment is coming near, so I think, I need to practice my composition first.

Video of violin practice grade 10 term 1

Term 1


This is the first video of my practice in playing violin. My instrument teacher ask us to play any song in the suzuki book 1, so, because I still can't really good at playing violin, I choose to play no.10 which is allegretto. I make 2 mistake in this practice and it doesn't sound really good. I need to practice more to improve my performance.


This is the video of my second practice and I think I have done some improvement. In this practice, I only make 1 mistake and I think it sounds better than my first practice. I will practice more and more so that I will play it beautifully without making any mistake.



This is the video of my third practice with my friend. I play the song in the suzuki book no.8. Mr Sadrakh told us that we need to play this song in the individual assessment, but, if we already can and want to change other song, we can do that. I think, I'm going to change the song because it's too short and I can play it.


This is the video of my practice with my friend again. I play the song in the suzuki book no. 10. First, we decided to play this song because we thought that it's easier than no. 9. I need to have more practice so that I can play it beautifully and without making any mistakes.



This is the video of my practice. The last song option that Mr. Sadrakh gave is no. 9. When I practice that number together with my friends, I think I refer to play this number than no. 10. So, this is my last decision and I'm going to play this song for the individual assessment. In this video, I still made so many mistakes, my third finger is to high and the tempo is slowly increasing. I need to practice more on my tempo and on my third finger.


This is the video of my practice in playing the no.9 song in the suzuki book. I think I made a little improvement on the tempo and on the third finger but still, I still make those mistakes again in the middle of the song. I will practice more on that one so that it will be better.


This is the video of my practice in playing the violin. I think I made an improvement again but the problem now is that I play some of the notes incorrectly. I need to practice more and more so that I will not make any mistakes in playing the song again.

Grade 10 Music Reflection 2011-2012

25 July 2011
Today is the first day of Grade 10 music class. First, Mr.Herry set us up in groups of instrument that we have chosen and auditioned. Then, after that, Mr.Herry explained about the topics and what are we going to do in this semester. Then, we talk about the criteria of music that we need to accomplish. We have a task to do which is searching for a song to sing for next week. It's quiet confusing because I don't have any idea of what song do I have to choose. At home, I will search for the song and its genre. I will also search about the major, minor scale, etc.


27 July 2011
Today, we started this class by reading the unit planner. After reading by ourselves, Mr. Herry explain us more about it. There are 4 criteria that will be assessed which are knowledge and understanding, application, reflection &evaluation and personal engagement. After that, we discuss on what are we going to do each meeting. The task that I need to do now is to search for a song with the "minus-one"(karaoke version) for the individual singing assessment next week. After discussing the unit planner, Mr. Herry gave is a review on major scales. At home, I will study about minor scale and prepare for my assessment.


1 August 2011
Today, we discussed about major, minor, diminished and dominant 7th. Mr. Herry also give us our score of the major scale that we did last week. The theory class is quiet easy cause I've learnt it before and I just need to revise. After we finish discussing, we started to give our "minus-1" of our song. I'm gonna sing "Only Hope" from Mandy Moore. I choose that song because the melody is nice and sweet. At home, I will practice to sing my song and I will study about the major 7th, interval, etc.


3 August 2011
Today is the day of our assessment day and I'm really nervous. First, we came into the class and prepare for our assessment, Then, we start to do warming up so that our throat will be widened and will be easier for us to sing. Fortunately, my turn is not today, so, I'm gonna do it next week. I'm so relieved. At home, I'm gonna practice more so that it will be better and I hope my throat will be recover soon.

Today is the continual day of our individual singing assessment. I'm the second one who will sing in front and I'm really really nervous. When I sang in front, my hands and legs are shaking. Thankfully, I can finish to sing the whole song and I think I got most of the pitch right. I'm really relieved because finally, I finished the assessment. At home, I'll learn more about the major 7th, minor 7th, etc and learn some other in advanced. I will also research about the different genre of music.

Today, we start music theory lesson by discussing about the music unit planner. This week we suppose to do the group slide presentation but because Mr.Herry just told us last meeting, so, it was postponed until next week. Then, we discuss and make a group for the slide presentation on 5 different music genre. I searched for the jazz music genre. I will start to do it today at home.


15 August 2011
Today, we start our theory lesson by watching 2 of our classmates who not yet do their individual singing assessment. After that, we continue the lesson by starting the group did well in the group slide presentation. My group is the first one to present. I think, me and my group did well in the group slide presentation. I feel that I've improved on my confident in presenting in front of the class. We don't have instrument class today because we need more time for the group slide presentation. At home, I will do the investigation report on jazz music and I will continue to practice in playing the violin.

Today is the independence day so we didn't come to school.


22 August 2011
Today, Mr.Herry is absent, so, the substitute teacher for the music theory class is Mr.Harry Wisnu. First, we discuss about the major scales and major chords because some of my classmates still didn't understand about it. Then, after that, we discuss about the major 7th chord like tonic 7th chord, sub-dominan 7th chord and dominan 7th chord. I didn't find any difficulties because I already understand. In the instrument class, me and my friends practice to play no.8 from the suzuki book 1. We're practicing for the assessment on playing the western classical music songs. At home, I will practice more so that I can play it beautifully.


24 August 2011
Today, we started the music theory by watching one group slide presentation. It was good and they look well-prepared. After they finished, Mr.Herry and some of our classmates ask some questions regarding the topics thaty they have presented. After that, some of our classmates want to redo the individual singin assessment. After that, we went to the instrument class to practice for the assessment. At home, I will practice more on playing the violin. I think, I'm going to change the song.

Today, I was absent so I don't know what's going on in the music class. I'll copy the notes that was given from my friend and I'll keep practicing the violin.

Today, we just review on major scale for the quiz this Wednesday. I've learnt and practice it at home which makes me didn't face any trouble about it. I also learnt about the 7th chord and its inversion. After this is the instrument class and I'm going to practice the song that I'll be playing. At home, I'll study more for the quiz and practice my violin.

Today, we have a quiz about major scale, minor scale, major 7th chord and dominant 7th chord. I found it easy and I didn't face any trouble at all. But, even though it's like that, I still feel afraid because I'm kind of a clumsy person and I'm scared that I will make a silly mistakes. Because of this, I try to lower my speed so that I will be more accurate. I checked it over and over again and I think I did it correctly. In the instrument class, I'll practice the violin for the assessment. At home, I'll put my video practice on the blog.

Today, we started this music theory class by reviewing the major scale, major 7th chord, and dominant 7th chord because some of our classmates still didn't understand. I'm very happy because I got perfect score for the quiz last session. After this, one of the students from each instrument group will become the representative to rehearse and play the instrument in front of the class. I got my turn today to rehearse in front of the class. I need to improve more and increase my tempo. After this is the instrument class. I'm going to practice more to play the violin.

Today, we started this music theory lesson by watching some of our classmates do some rehearsal for the individual instrument assessment next week. They're quiet prepared and most of them have memorized their song. Most of them did very well. After this is the instrument class so that we can have more practice in playing our instrument. I think I've improved a little bit and I will practice more and more at home so that I can play it beautifully.

Today, we have a lot of things to do. First, we discussed about the assessment criteria. Assessment criteria are the things that are going to be assessed. First, we must focus on our posture. Then, the major and minor mistakes. Then, the expression. Expression doesn't mean about the facial expression but how our performance touch the attention of the audience. After discussing about the criteria, we start rehearsing for our individual assessment next week. I changed the song that I'm going to play for the assessment. I think I need to practice more s that I will not make any mistakes. I need to practice more on the tempo because I play it faster at the end of the song. After this is the instrument class and I'm going to ask Mr.Sadrakh about my problem in playing the violin.

Today, the assessment (individual instrument) is postponed because there's an IB visitors so the teacher should attend it. Even though Mr. Herry couldn't attend the first session of the music class, there's a substitute teacher that will see us rehearse in front of the class. I need to practice on my third finger because I always play it higher than usual. After the rehearsal, we start to practice playion the violin by oursleves.

Today, we started this music theory class by discussing about the scales. After we discuss about the scales, we discuss about our research on sonata, concerto and rondo. Because of this research, I know most of the definition about them. After that, Mr.Herry teach us about music composition in A A' B A' format. At home, I will compose the music and I'll practice my violin.

Today, I've learnt about simple time, compound time and other things. Some of them are new to me but now I understand about it. Then, after the discussion, we copy our music composition to a piece of paper that is going to be submitted to the teacher. After this is the instrument class, I'm going to practice to play the violin and try to play my music composition. I'm going to practice too at home.

Today, we just need to make or develop my draft music composition into 32 bars. It's quite hard because I need to find the notes that will matched with each other. I think I'm going to change my composition because it doesn't sound really good when I make it into 32 bars. At home, I will try to make the new composition and try to finish it. And if I have time, I'm going to play it using my violin. Mr. Sadrakh is absent today so me and my friends practice by ourselves by playing the song from 1-8 from the suzuki book.

Today, we start this session by discussing about the survey that we need to do. The result of the survey will answer the theme "How does music affect our life". Then, we got the reflection book to write our reflection and the reflection should start on Monday 24 Oct 2011. Then, Mr.Herry start to check our music composition. Then, we start practice singing Indonesia Pusaka. In the instrument class, I practice to play my music composition using my violin. I don't think that my composition is hard to be played so the things that I need to do is to practice it at home so that I can play it nicely.

Today, we have a singing assessment and we sing Indonesia national anthem which is "Indonesia Pusaka". I think I did it nicely. Then, we also put our final music composition 32 bars into the paper that is given by Mr. Herry. In the instrument class, we just practice to play the song in suzuki book. I've learnt new songs which are number 11 and 12. I'm going to practice it at home so that I can play it nicely.

First, we started this theory class by discussion the result of the survey that we've made about "How does music affects our lives." Then, Mr.Herry started to explain to us on how to put our music composition in the finale software. I've done and printed mine so I already finished my work. In the instrument class, me and my friends practice to play our own music composition. I think I need to have more practice to play the song. I've memorized some part of the song, so, I need to continue it again so that I can memorize all as it will be easier for me to play if I memorize the song.

Today, we start this music theory class by writing a reflection about our final music composition. Then, we discuss about chord progression. Chord progression is quite an interesting topic to learn. I'll learn more about it at home. Today, Mr. Sadrakh is absent, so, we (me and my friends) practice to play our own music composition. I think I need to practice more because there are some notes that I misplayed.

Today, we start this theory class by reviewing the chord progression lesson that we've learnt last week. After that, we are told to compose a melody with 8 bars based on the chords I, V, VI and IV. I think it's quite easy and interesting. In instrument class, we just practice to play the no.12 song from the suzuki book. We also increase the tempo of the song. Our homework is to play no.14 (Minuet 2).

Today, in music theory class, we just rehearse to play our own composition in front of the class. I think, I need to practice more as my performance is not quite good. I need to practice to place my finger correctly so that I can play the right tune. In the instrument class, we just show our music composition to Mr.Sadrakh and let him fix the song. Then, we rehearse it (play using violin).

Today, in music theory class, we learn about minor chord progression. First, we learn about the a minor harmonic, then, we made the melody based on the chords given. I think, it's quite easy as I like to compose music/melody. In instrument class, we just continue to practice playing the song from suzuki book no.12. We try to increase the tempo and play double (each note played double).

Today, we start this music theory class by watching my classmates rehearsal on performing their music composition (for those who haven't done it). After that, we review about major minor relative scale, then, enharmonic keys. After that, we discuss more detailed about minor scale. I think I understand about this. In instrument class, we just continue to practice to play the song no.12. I think we have improved, so, we just need to have more practice and we need to practice no.13 too. We also will continue to practice our own music composition at home.

Today, we first watch the rehearsal of our classmates performance (those who not yet perform). While seeing them perform, we do the MDW booklet (Music developmental Workbook) for term 2. The assessment on playing the music composition is on 7 December 2011. On the assessment, we are not just playing the music composition, but we also need to play the scale can be minor or major. So, in the instrument class, Mr.Sadrakh decided to give and teach us G Major scale.

First Practice
This is my first practice, I play the A part first

B part. The notes and the tempo is still kind of messy,
I need to practice more and I need to work on it.

Third Practice

In this third practice, I start to play all parts of my
composition. I still need to fin the right notes because
some of it I got it wrong and I need to practice it
more so that I can play it fluently without any mistakes.

Fourth Practice

This is my fourth practice and I think, I already
got some notes right and the melody is quite good.
But I think, I need to have more and more practice
so that I can play it beautifully. :D

5 April 2011
Today is the first day of term 4 and we didn't do much activity today. First, we started this lesson by discussing on what are we gonna do in this term 4. After finished discussing, we learn about rythm. After we finish learning and practicing the rythm lesson, Mr.Herry told us ti make our own music composition with a rondo form. I will practice about the rythm at home because we must perform it in front of the class.

Today, we were just discussing about the homework that we did yesterday. It's about labeling the notes and the name of the treble clef, bass clef, etc. After that, we discussed on our own composition using the finale program. After we've discussed on how to make a song in finale, we started to make a group of 3, then, we started to practice the rythm exercise. I'm planning to buy the finale program because if I download it from the internet, it's gonna take a long time.

Today, we continue they ryhtm assessment. It was kind of easy because me and my group had practice it before. We also discussed about the singing assessment, the composed song, and the notation assessment next week, I'll prepare for the singing and notation assessment at home.

Today, we start to do the singing assessment. We sang "Indonesia Pusaka". First, we warm up ourselves by singing the song all together, then, after that, we started to do the singing assessment one by one. We must make a comment on each of our classmates while they're singing. I'm gonna revise the notation and inversion because there will be a test tomorrow.

Today at theory class, we just do our notation test. It is easy for me and I didn't find any difficulties while doing the test, I just need ti be concentrate and be careful so that I won;t make a mistake. This test is for 30 minutes. At home, I'll practice my singing "You've Got A Friend" with my group. The assessment is next week and my group haven't got the harmony yet. So, we must get the harmonization as fast as we can.

Today, we started to do our singing assessment with the song called "You've Got A Friend". While my friends were singing, we write down our own score for them. I was kind of nervous because me and my group haven't really practice to sing together and I was kind of scared that I will forget my part and the harmonization. But, fortunately, my group has successfully finished the song.

Today, we make a reflection on the singing performance yesterday. After we finished the reflection, we watch our performance yesterday that has been recorded. After that, one representative from each instrument group perform their own composition. I'll practice my composition using the violin at home.

Today, the first thing that we've done is that we discuss on the date of the submission of our own composition in finale. Then, after that, we listen to our friend's composition using finale and comment it one by one. At home, I'll practice to play my own composition using violin.

Today, we started this session by getting our score on our personal engagement last term. Then, we continue to give feedback to our friend's draft finale on their composition. We just write the comment for them, then, after we finished, we go to our practical instrument class to practice our composition.

Today, we started this lesson by watching some videos of an orchestra. It was truly amazing. They played a mario bross song. Then, we watch a girl who played the flute beautifully. We also watch some concerto. After we finished watching some of those videos, one student from each instrument group come in front of the class and play their music composition.

Today, we started this lesson by giving our finale of our own composition. I didn't write any lyric on my composition, so, I'll submit it tomorrow and I'll finish it today by writing down the lyrics. The, after that, we watch some other students play their own music composition. After they finished playing, we go to our instrument class to practice our composition.

Today, we start the session by watching the rest of our friends play their own composition. Here are the feedbacks and comment for some performance:

Today is the day of our practical assessment on playing our own composition using our
instrument. I was kind of nervous when I played in front of the class, my hands were shaking,
but, in the middle of the performance, I am starting to be calm and enjoy my performance.
Fortunately, I can finish playing my composition without any stopping in the middle and I
successfully play my instrument until the end of the song. :D

video of violin practice

This is the 1st violin practice. The notes are still messy and the way I play also still not good. I need to improve more on searching or finding the right notes so that the sound will be better. This is the song called "twinkle twinkle" and i got it from the book suzuki volume 1. This is the first time i learned to play violin and it's somehow exciting and interesting.




This is the 2nd violin practice. I think, the notes are still kind of wrong and it's still not really good. But, from what i see from this video, i think, i made a little improvement in playing this song. This is the last practice for the assessment and i hope I can play the violin beautifully on the assessment date.



This is the 3rd violin practice. I'm still practincing the same song because my instrument teacher asked us to still practicing this song so that we can play it better. I think, in this 3rd practice, i'm kind of make some improvement on finding the notes and playing the violin. But, it's still doesn't sound really good. I think, all i need to do is some more practice so that i can really play it better.



This is my 4th practice and still playing the same song. I think, on this 4th practice, I did some improvement again from last week and I think the notes are not really messy anymore and it's kind of good to hear. But, i still need some more practice so that i can really play this song very well.

Today is the first day of music class and today, we were just talking about what do we do in this semester. First, Mr.Herry told us about putting our videos and reflection on the blog. Then, we were divided into groups of 4 instruments. I choose violin as my instrument. Last 2 years, I'm joining vocal, but, since there is no vocal class anymore, I choose violin. After that, the music teacher do some performance to inspire us. We were also going to learn pop and classical music. I think it's gonna be interesting and I will work hard for this semester.I'm gonna start to research about pop and classical music to make a preparation for the essay report.

Today, we're starting to learn music theory. Mr.Herry thought us about the basic on major scale.
I've been learning with this before, so, I think, it's easier for me to understand, and until now,
I didn't find any difficulties in learning the basic on major scale. I will research more about pop
and classical music and prepare for the quiz.

Today, in music theory lesson, Mr.Herry discuss with us about the assessment and tasks that
we need to do and accomplish. We discussed about the group presentation slides, individual
report, music performance, etc. Then,Mr.Herry told us to prepare a song ( pop song) that will be
performed at the 1st week of February and there will be a rehearsal for the performance tomorrow.
I was so confused at that time because I don't really hear a pop song, so, I think, I will choose
Michael Jakson's song because for me, it was kind of easy, and the songs are good. Before we
finished the music theory lessons, we were also divided into groups for the group slide presentation
and each group consist of 6 people.

Today, Mr.Herry taught and discussed about classical music and the type of classical music are
there in those era. I've done my research last week, but I think, I need to research more about it
because there are many things that I still don't know about it. We also discussed about the famous
classical composers. After Mr.Herry done giving us some introduction about classical music, he
told us to rehearse for the singing assessment next week. For the singing assessment, i choose
the song "You are not alone" from Michael Jackson because I think, it's a good song and I like it.
Not everyone got a chance to rehearse because the time has finished, so, the rest will be given a
chance to rehearse next week.

Today, we have so much things to do in music class. First, we discuss about the essay report that will be submitted tomorrow and Mr.Herry gave us some materials that is useful for the essay. Then, after we finished discussing about the essay, we continue to rehearse for the singing assessment next week. I think, I'm gonna have a hard time in making the essay because I have not prepare anything yet. Then, we also discussed about the group presentation. And I think, I also need to prepare for the group presentation.

Today is the submission of the essay. Luckily, Mr.Herry give us an extention so that we can submit it on Friday, but, we must give the hard copy and not the soft copy. After we discuss about the essay, we continue to do the rehearsal for the music assessment next week. Most of the students sang well and the music that they chose is very good. At home, I will contineu to write my essay and I will practice more and more to sing for the singin assessment.

Today is the day of our individual singin assessment. Firstm we were distributed a paper and we must make our reflection about the essay that we;ve made. Then, after that, we submit it. After that, we were given a booklet of our individual singing assessment. We take a vote and we decided to do the singin assessment alphabetically from a to z. Unfortunately, because of the time, we were finished until the students with a "D" of the first letter in their name. I think i get my turn tomorrow, I will prepare it at home tonight,

Today, we continue doing the individual singin assessment. I got my turn today and it was not really good. I felt so nervous and my hands are shaking. But hopefully, orverall, it went well. At home, I will prepare for the group slide presentation which will be given next week.

Today, we start to do the group slide presentation. Our class was divided into 5 groups. 4 groups have 5 members each and 1 group have 6 members which is my group. My group is the first one who's gonna present the group slide presentation. We are kind of hopeless because we don't bring the cube card, so, we must always look at the back to read the presentation. During the presentation, I was kind of down because the music that I've put in that presentation doesn't work and some of the members in my group speak kind of slow. Because of that, it;s kind of wasting time. But, I was relieved because it's finally over. Group 2 is well-prepared and they also have good music and they were confident. Group 3 is the best so far because their presentation is good and they have good music. They also have a good timing. They also have a cube card, Group 4 is not bad, but, the things is, they don't have cube card and music. Group 5, which is the last group, is also good and they also have videos of classical and pop music.

Today, we start to learn about notation. First, we make a "c" and "g" major scale and we make tonic triot, 1st inversion and 2nd inversion out of it. It was kind of easy because I've learnt it before and I think, I don't have any problem so far. At home, I will got to www.teoria.com and learn more about music theory so that in advanced to make me easier to understand if some of the topics were discussed in the class. I will also practice more about this notation.

Today,we start the music class by watching some performance of some instruments in the video. We watch someone teaching how to play flute, someone is playing guitar which is incredibly good, a 7-years-old girl sing amazingly, and many more inspiring videos. I was inspired and I really want to work harder than this and I want to be good at violin and piano. After we watch the videos, Mr.Herry check our homework. I will learn more about major scale because there will be a quiz on this topic.

Today, we start to practice how to play our instrument in front of the class. The assessment will be next week and we really need to practice everyday. I think I really need to practice more because I can't plat the violin correctly. At home, I will practice to play the song "Twinkle twinkle little star". I'm gonna practice it everyday.

Today, we start our theory lesson by revising the major chord that we've learnt before. Then, after that, we learn a new topic which is major 7th, minor 7th, dominant 7th and diminish 7th. I'm kind of new with this topics but I know a little bit because I've learnt it through my piano lesson last year. I'm kind of interested in learning this topic and I will learn more about this at home.

Today is the day our assessment. I was very nervous. My legs and hands were shaking. But I was relieved because t's finally over. Violin group was the third one who perform. I think I did well on the assessment. I really need to practice more and more. I also need to train myself to not always too nervous when I play in front of the class.

Today, to start our lesson, Mr. Herry gave us the score of our assessment (singing). I got 8 over 10 and I was really happy. I thought that I failed on this assessment, but, hopefully, I passed and I got a good score. I must improve to sing louder next time. After this, we had a small quiz about classical music,and the music theory that we've been learning all this time. For me, it was kind of easy but I need to learn more about the history of music.
